Chlamydia trachomatis  infection is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Although the negative effects of C. trachomatis infection on female fertility have long been recognized, the effect of the bacterium on male fertility is only becoming established . The most important sequelae to genital C. trachomatis infection include pelvic inflammatory disease, salpingitis, occlusion of the fallopian tubules, and other fertility-abolishing or - diminishing problems in women; epididymitis can follow genital infection in men. Asymptomatic persistent chlamydial infection in the urogenital tract of men among infertile couples has been reported. C. trachomatis may be the causative agent in up to 40% of ectopic pregnancies. A high percentage (50–70%) of infected persons remains asymptomatic. C. trachomatis is also an important neonatal pathogen, where it can lead to infections of the eye (trachoma) and pulmonary complications.

Rely-AMP CHLAMYDIA TRACHOMATIS is an in vitro polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the direct, qualitative detection of Chlamydia trachomatis from clinical specimens. Rely-AMP CHLAMYDIA TRACHOMATIS provides all necessary reagents for reliable Chlamydia trachomatis extraction andDNA detection.

The kit is designed for the detection of the Chlamydia trachomatis plasmidic DNA based on the amplification of the specific sequence of the Chlamydia trachomatis cryptic plasmid and concurrently on the amplification of the sequence of the gene for RNasi by means of the Real time PCR. The kit gives positive result for bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis while also “Sweden variant“ carrying 377bp deletion in cryptic plasmid.
