Translocation t(8;21)(q22;q22) fuses the 5’-portion of the AML1 gene on chromosome 21 to the almost complete open reading frame of the ETO gene on chromosome 8 generating an AML1-ETO fusion transcript. The breakpoints of AML1 are located between exon 5 and 6 and upstream of exon 2 regarding ETO. The translocation t(8;21)(q22;q22) is one of the most common structural chromosomal aberrations in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

The quantitative t(8;21) assay can be used not only to diagnose AML, but also to serially monitor patients for MRD (minimal residual disease), evaluate the effectiveness of treatment, and predict early relapse.

Rely-AMP AML1-ETO is an in vitro Real Time polymerase chain reaction assay for the direct, quantitative detection AML1-ETO fusion transcript. Housekeeping gene ABL is a reference for relative quantitation. Rely-AMP AML1-ETO provides all necessary reagents for RNA extraction, reverse transcription and cDNA detection.
