The gram-negative diplococcus Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the causal agent of gonorrhoea, one of the two most common sexually transmitted diseases (after Chlamydia Trachomatis).

Neisseria gonorrhoeae primarily causes urethritis in males. Health complications resulting from gonorrhea disease occur mainly in women, and are largely assigned to the predominately asymptomatic nature of the lower genital tract infection. Infection by gonococcus is associated with several clinical manifestations, such as cervicitis and urethritis, as well as pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, chronic pelvic pain, and infertility.

N. gonorrhoeae neonatal infection can cause severe conjunctivitis, which can result in blindness if untreated and, rarely, sepsis with associated meningitis, endocarditis, or arthritis.

Rely-AMP NEISSERIA GONORRHOEAE is an in vitro polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the direct, qualitative detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae from clinical specimens. Rely-AMP NEISSERIA GONORRHOEAE provides all necessary reagents for reliable Neisseria gonorrhoeae extraction andDNA detection.

The kit is designed for the detection of the Neisseria gonorrhoeae genomic DNA based on the amplification of the specific sequence of the Neisseria gonorrhoeae OPA gene and concurrently on the amplification of the sequence of the gene for RNasi by means of the Real time PCR.
